The Enhanced Monitoring Service will monitor customer VPS services around-the-clock, and includes problem resolution from our customer support team

Ashburn, VA (PRWEB) January 16, 2006 -- PowerVPS, a leading Virtual Private Server (VPS) solution provider, announced it has released an Enhanced Monitoring Service exclusively for its customer base. The service is based on the Hyperspin Internet Services global monitoring network, which has eight monitoring stations across the globe and monitors thousands of servers every day.

“Global eCommerce has driven the demand from our customers who needed to ensure not only that their sites stayed operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but they also wanted the assurance that when a problem did arise, someone would be available to resolve any problems in a timely fashion. Our Enhanced Monitoring Service, which is available immediately, meets these customer requirements, and does so in a cost-effective way.” said Thomas ******, CEO of PowerVPS.

“We are excited to partner with PowerVPS to offer their customer base our enterprise-class monitoring services. Our global monitoring network will check each service from each monitoring station across the globe and then reconcile the results, this helps to minimize ‘false alarms’”, says ChoonKeng Chua, President of Hyperspin Internet Services. “Many times a provider will monitor a customer’s website from within their own network, giving the customer a false sense of security, because internal monitoring doesn’t account for issues outside of their own network, and many times even within their own network, but on different network segments. Our global monitoring network eliminates these problems.”

With the recent rollout of our Standard and Enhanced Monitoring Service, I wanted to take a few moments to explain a little more about each as well as what you can expect from the programs.

Both services use monitoring technology provided by Hyperspin.com (http://www.hyperspin.com). They have a global monitoring network that is able to check your site's availability. If any one monitor detects a problem, it has another one verify it before sending the report in an effort to reduce the number of false positive reports.

Standard Monitoring Service
Our Standard Monitoring Service is available free of charge to all VPS or Dedicated server customers. It includes one ten-minute check on any service you wish to be alerted regarding. By default we will setup this test to perform a ping (ICMP) check on the IP of the server. It will verify the server answers to requests it recieves. It does not check an individual service such as Apache/IIS, Exim, or MySQL.

You are free to change this ping test to monitor an individual system service if you prefer. Please refer to our Knowledge Base (https://www.powervps.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=36) for details.

The SMS does not include the PowerVPS/Defender Hosting Support Team responding to alerts generated by the test. These alerts should go to the server's owner or someone else who can take action regarding the problem.

Enhanced Monitoring Service
Our Enhanced Monitoring Service is designed for customers who do not want to deal with the worry of checking to make sure their server is online and responding 24/7 in case of a problem. It can be used if a customer needs to go out of town and does not have someone who can watch over their server while they are gone, or if they simply want the extra convienence/security of having a team of professionals to respond to issues in minutes without the need to open a support ticket.

The service includes three five-minute checks on various standard web services. (See our Supported Services (https://www.powervps.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=36&id=129) page for a list of what services we can provide assistance for in case of a problem.)

By default, we perform a ping (ICMP) test and a port check on the web server (port 80) for both windows and linux servers with the EMS. We also setup monitoring on RDP port 3389 for Windows servers and port 22 for SSH.

What We Need From You
Customers utilizing our Standard Monitoring Service simply need to make sure the alerts generated do not try to send messages to our help desk. The help desk will automatically ignore messages sent from the SMS.

If you signup for our Enhanced Monitoring Service, please make sure you have your current login information on file with us. This includes the account password and any information needed to access the root account (sudo logins, port numbers, etc.) We also ask that if you perform any type of system maintainence yourself (such as rebooting the server, recompiling a monitored service, etc) that you open a support ticket to let us know. If we recieve an alert, we may not know you are working on the server and may accidently interupt your progress.

Pricing and Ordering Information
The Standard Monitoring Service is available free of charge to customers. If you are interested in having a test setup for your server, please open a support ticket requesting it be added for you. Please include what servers you wish monitored.

The Enhanced Monitoring Service is available for $15 per month. This includes the monitoring tests and PowerVPS/Defender Hosting support engineers responding to monitoring alerts.

Do the monitoring services allow us access to statistics to show customers site/server history of downtime (or better, NO downtime)?
