I just can't seem to make it work. At 1st, with Plesk 7, I took the remotesql=yes path since MSDE was already installed. Almost got it to work, I got stuck somewhere in the configuration, forgot where but I managed to get the database configured.

Now after trying a manual install of Plesk 7.5, MSDE wasn't installed so I thought this would be a good chance to try the single-server installation with WMSDE automatically installed and configured.

Installation got to "... installing and configuring MS SQL Desktop Engine (Windows) ..." and then after reaching the end, the progress bar actually reverses, as if the Cancel button was pressed. Window disappeared and nothing else happens.

The Control Panel Add/Remove Programs did have "Sharepoint Services" but not "WMSDE" or the like. For some reason WMSDE was not installed (or uninstalled itself? ) and refuse to install.

Anyway, when I have some more time to spare I'll try again another way and see what happens. Anyone wants to tell me to just forget it? :o :p I did try looking for possible info in Google but Virtuozzo Windows vps is so new.

Hi Nadzri

The first thing I noticed with plesk 7.5 was the absense of MS SQL.... I do not know why yet - waiting for a response from SWSoft.

The Plesk 7.5 install instructions seem to indicate that it will use MS SQL if its installed beforehand. So if you'd like to try a clean slate, let me know. I somehow doubt that plesk is stopping this from installing after the fact though.

Well, at this point I'd have to give up installing Windows Sharepoint Services. The problem seems to lie with installing MSDE.

I've had the opportunity to install Sharepoint on a clean vps (without Plesk). A typical installation would go fine up until the window shown below. The progress bar is actually rolling back (going left)! Then it disappears and nothing happens.

Then I tried manually installing MSDE 2000 Rel. A. This is a separate MSDE than the one included in WSS. Also the same thing.

Nadzri was quite right about this. There was an issue with MSDE installing. We can install it on a clean build prior to installing Plesk, and Nadzri should be able to report soon if a work around suggested by SWSoft works for installing it afterwards.

This is promised to be fixed in 7.5.2, although we have no ETA.

Apparently the "Server" service wasn't running and not set to auto-start. You can start and set to auto-start in Administrative Tools -> Services. Or type "net start lanmanserver" or "net start server" at the command prompt.

After that MSDE installation was flawless.

I read somewhere that MSDE needs file and print sharing services which depend on this Server service. An installation attempt with a clean vps failed just the same. If it was installed with a template, there might be errors resulting from the Server service not being active. ;)

A quick note: Windows Sharepoint Services installed properly this time. However, with Plesk also running, there is a concern about memory. If it's 256MB, don't run both together.
