How are resellers given their own DNS servers and dedicated IPs for their clients?

DNS delegation is all managed through your control panel, you just choose whether or not to allow your reseller access to DNS managment. On the IP side of things, I guess you just request the IP addresses from Defender and then use your control panel again to allocate those new addresses to your reseller. If you're asking this with the idea of allowing your resellers their own nameservers then you don't need any more IP addresses. Just define your resellers name servers using two existing IP addresses. As long as you've got the DNS 'A' records right and informed the registra of the domain involved, it should all work fine.

Just FYI, reverse DNS needs to be done by us, so just submit a ticket when needed, stating the IP(s) and what you want them to resolve to.

Does reverse-DNS pose a security risk of any kind? I'm being told that it is normal to have it enabled, but I'd like to hear it from the authority. :)

None that I am aware of, unless you consider someone knowing who you are a security risk.

Do note that you don't need to actually give them different IPs from yours for the nameservers..you can just give them your IPs..it's a bit dirty to setup--but it definately does the job.

I wasn't aware of this... Is this documented anywhere? In a FAQ or a knowlegebase or something?

I opened a ticket to have it done for my IPs, thanks for the info.

I didn't, and with 300 views, I don't think someone else sneaked in and did it between when you posted and when i looked for it. I would have added it if it did not exist though :) .
