I was wondering if anyone knows why I can accept mail coming in, but I cannot connect to the smtp going out with outlook. I can send mail with the webmail, but not using a remote program like outlook. Thanks.

Is this a server with Plesk?
Have you made sure you have enabled the option to authenticate before sending mail? :)

Yes it is with Plesk. And I do have it as log on to imcoming mail server before sending mail.
The Error Message:
Reported error (0x80042109): Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server.

OK. Then it's most likely one of the following issues:
a) SMTP is not running on the VPS. Try restarting it. hehe
b) Your firewall is blocking the port. Try quickly flushing the firewall (iptables --flush)
c) Your ISP is blocking port 25.

SMTP is running, MailEnable says it is.
I dont have a local firewall
My ISP Sucks so that could be it, I'll check it from another house. Thanks.
it would be useless if the isp for that other house is also banning port 25...
Go on dnsreport.com and run the test for your domain, it will try to connect to your mail server. If it's working, then there's no trouble with your server, you have the guarantee it's the isp... If it's not working, there's a trouble ;)
but to be able to use your smtp server from your house or anywhere where it block the port 25 ... i don't know if it's possible to do this easily with plesk, but you could run it on port 25 AND on another port like 26... Your isp isn't blocking access to port 26... :)

Thanks Fred, that tool is telling me a lot. It says my mail.elementsystems.net is up and running...so I think its a clientside issue.

Well I'm not a 100% sure what is going on. I've tried restarting the smtp services. update mailenable, tried from other houses with different internet connections, removed the firewalls completely and still nothing.....any more ideas? It is kind of important that I'm able to send emails out =P

Are you able to telnet to port 25? Have you actually tried to use port 26? When you run MailEnable's 'Diagnostic utility', what kind of warnings/errors do you get? What do MailEnable logs show?
p.s. Rob, since when does 'iptables' command work on win2k3 (or any other version for that matter)? :)
