Hi all,

I'm trying to install pico on my new CentOS VPS with Plesk. I'm new to both CentOs and Plesk, but I've done the linux for a while (except more of the debian flavor).

The problem is that I can't seem to correctly get yum to hit the yum.powervps.com repos. I've searched the forums, but I've only found references to pulling fedora core repos. It does appear that the centos.org repos are being pinged.

The second problem is that it doesn't appear that pico is included in the repos (and doubtfully in the pvps repos). So I ask, since pico isn't part of the default plesk install, how the hell do you do install it manually.

And an related question: Is there any way to install packages from within virtuzozzo or plesk? You know, the safe VPS approved packages?

Thanks,

Mike

To answer my own question: apparently there's a liscensing issue with pico and CentOS. I don't know why, how, where, what...I just saw that there's a thing and that the editor nano is similar to pico and available in the repos.

yum install nano
alias pico="/usr/bin/nano"

Our repo is just like any other. What did you try and what happened?

For pico, you can always download and install the rpm the old fashioned way - like we used to have to do when there was no yum (and we walked to school in the snow up hill both ways) :).

What? I used to walk to school in the snow uphill both ways with no shoes on! Things were really rough then.

No, seriously, you're exactly right. With regards to the PVPS repos, I just wasn't thinking clearly. And instead of making my life harder than it has to be (i.e. spending time not doing what I should be doing), I'll just use nano.

And then the only trouble is remembering not to type pico all the time.

But then again, if I was a true manly man I'd just use vim.

But I'm not.

LOL.

Ok, I'm all about making your life easier (although just for the record I am a manly vi user). Edit ~/.bash_profile and add

alias pico='nano'

Logout and log back in, and you can type pico and it wil launch nano.
