I noticed that cpanel has a "Beta" addin module for ClamAV in the WHM interface. Does anyone have it installed? If so, what do you think? Looking at it, but the Beta always makes me a little nervous.

Please share your thoughts.

Thanks

I'm using ClamAV version for Linux provided on ClamAV's website. Have been using it for four months, no problems.

Using the clam package available through yum.
I just noticed that mail tagged by spam assassin apparently isn't passed on to clam ;c(

I've used ClamAV as a plugin on two of my personal CPanel servers since it's been released and have not had any problems. While it may be Beta as far as it's integration into CPanel... it's still ClamAV behind the scenes. It' been very stable in my tests of it.

Hi,

I am not yet a PowerVPS customer and am considering them. This message caught my eye.
In my currently hosted server, I use MailScanner with ClamAV to do antivirus checks on all incoming email.

I have never used cPanel before, and I am considering switching to PowerVPS + cPanel.

My question is can you use cPanel + ClamAV to do antivirus checks on all incoming email?

Thanks

I have had absolutely no problems with ClamAV on my personal servers. ClamAV has been pretty resource friendly (I just wish I could say that about SpamAssassin). Regarding catching viruses, I've sent a few test ones and it's been blocked. No complaints from me regarding it.

I know several customers as well who are using it sucessfully.

As i , am not too familliar with ClamAv, just want to know, Do we have to enable it on each domain , just like Spamassasin ? Or is it enabled on all domains by default?

No it's a system wide implementation. However customers will have an icon where they can scan the contents of their mail or home directory as they wish.

Ohh , so that is apart from the incomming email scanning, right ?

Chris

That is correct. It will scan the mail. I'm not positive, but I believe it scans all uploads done with the File Manager also. However, there is also an option for the user to scan as they see fit their existing mail and directories.

Make Sense?

Yes Chris it does, thanks all of you for the info.

I think i would install it next month , as my VPS is new and i dont want to disturb my corporate clients (in case something goes wrong or it is not installed properly, u know).

Thanks

I can only tell you that after a week or so it seems fine. Installation was a breeze. Only thing I had to do was adjust some of my features for packages because I didn't want clients to have access to all the items that came with the cPanel Pro installation. Just a personal preference . . . the more that is there . . . the more they link to tinker with it.

Anyone interested in tossing together a quick guide or tutorial on what they had to do to get Mailscanner, ClamAV and whatever else they chose to use up n' running?

I'd *love* to get this all set up. It'd be great to have a set of decent instructions from a user on the same hardware as software as the rest of us. The guides and tutorials scattered all over the net are pretty much junk.

Anything is appreciated. :)

I also just posted this to support and waiting for them to respond. But perhaps someone here can also help me.

Here at powervps, the default install of sendmail is setup to use xinetd (at least on my VPS with webmin).

Unfortunately, when I install MailScanner on my VPS, SMTP on my machine stops working. If I try to connect to port 25, it says "Connection refused".
This happens even if I stop MailScanner. Just the fact of installing it and then just running it once is screwing something up.

Has anyone gotten MailScanner to work with xinetd+sendmail?

(I know MailScanner works just fine with the daemon version of sendmail).

I have now rolled back my VPS to a previous backup, so sendmail is back to working , but I really would like to use MailScanner to do virus scanning on incoming mail.

Anybody has any solution?

Thanks in advance.

If you join the cPanel Forums (free) http://forums.cpanel.net/
One of the mods called Jonathan Michaelson (Chirpy) has a vast amount of experience with what you require and has most of the answers, as well as being able to set it up for you (for a small fee).

Johnathons Mailscanner pages:

I recommend that those new to cPanel and WHM join these forums as most of the questions being asked on this forum about cPanel issues have been asked and answered many times by some of the most knowledgable in the business.

The search facility on cPanel forums is, with out a doubt, your very best friend. :)

Or is it enabled on all domains by default? In your WHM under the menu item (very last choice) Add-ons/Configure ClamAV Scanner there is a Scans Allowed Globally implementation and also ClamAV Scanner User Configuration implementation.
Check out all the options under these headings.

I havent yet installed ClamAV. Ima actually waiting for chis's comments on his installation.

Well Chris , how was your experience with ClamAV ?

Well, in my mind the jury is still out.

About a week afterwards I had to disable it because clamd kept failing. I believe this to be due to a bad cpanel STABLE release that was automatically installed. After manually upgrading, I re-enabled it and it seems to work fine.

I still occasionally get (twice a week) a notification of clamd service failing, but it seems to restart fine.

I've got it enabled and unless I have further issues I'll keep it active.

That's my two cents at this point.
