What cpanel release is everyone running or recommend? I have been using STABLE for some time, but I'm thinking about moving to RELEASE. Just curious what other users here are using.

Actually, I don't know.. everything is working fine, so I may just leave it alone :D

I am currently using RELEASE just to be on the safe side. Sometimes I switch, for one update, to STABLE if something important was released and RELEASE doesn't have it.

I think you got them mixed up, release is more recent than stable...
edge>release>current>stable

Build Types
EDGE Edge is the bleeding edge tree. While it has the newest features; It has undergone the least amount of testing (if any). You generally shouldn't run this build unless you need a bug fix or feature in it. Once an equivalent CURRENT or RELEASE build has been released, you should switch away from this.
CURRENT Current builds are more mature then the EDGE builds since they have been tested in a production environment.
RELEASE Release builds are the prefered builds to run. They are generally current enough to have the latest bugfixes and new features, but without the worry of new bugs being introduced.
STABLE Stable builds are for the consverative people who do not wish to run the latest release.

P.S. I'm using release

You are sort of correct PvUtrix. I actually didn't get them mixed up, I was just thinking about STABLE at the time ;).

Off topic: anybody want to guess how long it will take for PHPMyAdmin to be updated?

You should be fine with either Stable or Release. Both should be pretty good versions.

Honestly there have been a few times I've had to move to Edge releases on my production boxes to correct critical errors (for example when they switched the cpmove/restore feature quite a while back and no restore accounts were working). It worked long enough to get my transfer done once they had the fix in the edge build to get the accounts moved and then switch back to the Release version.

Regarding how long it takes for CPanel to update phpMyAdmin... it depends. Usually Nick or a CPanel staff member post on the forums when they're about to make a new Stable release. It might be helpful to watch the CPanel forums about such announcements. Generally those kinds of upgrades would be included in those stable releases.
