View Full Version : Email Header Problem

When any of the email addresses on any of the domains on my VPS receive mail the email headers start something like...

Return-Path: <member@ebay.co.uk>
Delivered-To: myemailaddress@mydomain.com
Received: (qmail 4053 invoked from network); 15 Jul 2006 09:55:46 +0100
Received: from mxpool14.ebay.com (HELO mx30.sjc.ebay.com) (66.135.197.20)
by wrongdomain.com with SMTP; 15 Jul 2006 09:55:46 +0100...

The problem is the "by wrongdomain.com" bit, wrongdomain.com being another random domain on my VPS. It could cause embarrassment, if email for pureandsimple.com was being received by bitchslappinho.org for example? ;)

Anyone know how to fix?

Yes, just email support and ask them to set your reverse DNS to whatever you'd like it to be.

Charles,
Can we have a reverse DNS setup for any domain name that requires it, or only for the domain used by the main VPS account?
Thanks,

- Vince

reverse dns is like the "official name" of your ip... so your ip can only have one "name" ...

see for info:

Of course, that makes perfect sense. So only if there is a dedicated IP can a customer have rDNS for their domain.
Thanks Fred.
