In PowerVPS.com, you use the term 'managed hosting'. This term is not explained.

Please explain what do you mean by 'managed'
1. Is the security managed?
2. Do you proactively push security updates?
3. And what about mail server security?

Thanks

Amnon :)

Amnon, sorry for the slow reply here, please email sales (at) powervps.com for a much faster response or more detail in the future.

1. We install a ton of security options, search the forums for a list of everything we do from a secure /tmp, to bfd/apf installs. The end user can then edit a file to open/close ports, etc. If you need something done, we ask you submit a ticket and we get it done.

2. Kernel updates, yes. We would never go into a customers VPS and say update apache or php unless they asked us to do so. A few months ago when all the phpBB issues arose, we sent out an email to all customers, and asked them to submit a ticket if they needed/wanted us to update their phpBB installs, boy that was a busy weekend.

3. What do you mean by mail security?

levavie,

I've been with PowerVPS for around 4 or so months now and I've not had but one problem with my VPS in those 4 months. It was an on going problem, but was eventually pin-pointed and resolved.

The problem was with a clients scripts and it was causing Apache to crash about every hour or so. For about 5 days PowerVPS watched my VPS like a hawk and if Apache crashed they would restart it, so it was back online, and check all the logs until they found out exactly what it was.

Hopefully this will help you make a decision as I wasn't sure about the managed service either. Without their help in the matter, I'd still be looking through the logs asking what the hell could be causing this.

They have some great guys working there and they are all extremely competent with servers and keeping them going.
