Hello Everyone!
After doing a bit of research I decided PowerVPS was the place to be. :)
Unfortunately I am a complete "Newbie" at Server Administration, but I learn fast, so hopefully others won't mind if I ask a lot of questions.
Anyway, I'm off to the control panel to bump around and see what kind of mess I've got myself into. :D

Welcome aboard!!
You won't regret your decision. As a "newbie" myself, I found this board handy but the support staff second to none. I've worked with half a dozen hosting companies in my years and the responsiveness is the best I've seen.
Don't be afraid to ask . . . I haven't. And it really isn't as "hard" as I thought it would be. Either that or I'm still clueless and just don't know better.
Yeah, I've frozen up once or twice making bonehead moves, but it's all part of the learning curve.
They are here to back you up and bail you out along the way which is why I chose PowerVPS.
Again, welcome aboard!!

Another newbie here, just getting started with the vps world.
What vps control panel are you guys using? I chose plesk, even though I currently have other resellers accounts using cpanel/hsphere.

I'm using cpanel/whm here. Never tried plesk to be honest. I had several reseller accounts previously and had all the billing, etc setup using a cpanel interface and my customers are used to it so I stuck with it. Also I knew enought about it to stumble my way through the settings now that I have full control.
Hsphere . . . absolutely love it!! I also have several reseller accounts using hsphere which I really like. Ever need tutorials for your hsphere system I'll shamelessly put in my own plug www.hspheredemos.com
Welcome aboard SiteBuilder!! Glad to have ya here!

Oh, great. Another one for the club. :D
Welcome!!!
I too, am a NOOB. Plus I'm Old and SLOOOOOWWW. ;)
But, I'll tell you the support has been real nice to me. I just hate asking them. Cause they get it all done and then I have to ask them how they did it. So, I can learn.

My, my... I'm a newbie, too!!! Everything's so shiny and smells brand new. Frankly, am almost too afraid to touch anything for fear of screwing anything up. I'm thinking, with everything already served on a silver platter -- WHM/CPanel -- what else do I need to touch?

Hello,
Ooh better to learn and break than to have never learned.
Just to share what I did:
I logged into the root WHM interface and went down the left column menu item by item and looked at each and every setting available to me. Some I knew, some I looked up in the WHM documents at cpanel, some I read the cpanel forum about and some I asked the support staff here about.
I set each of them as I thought was appropriate. If I didn't know what was appropriate, I generally left it alone.
I had to tweak my settings to match my previous reseller accounts in some instances to ensure some scripts continued to work. One of the big ones was curl support and tweaking Apache as I needed it (Software>Update Apache). I also added some features such as ClamAV that are available in Add-On Modules under the menu.
After that I went into Fantastico and did the very same thing.
Another thing to look at is how well you can utilize Passive FTP. It was really slow on my system and Tomas did a tweak for me. It may even be here in the forum somewhere what to do.
I hope that helps

I decided to change the domain name to something other than what I originally signed up with so I can also port over the main account (which WHM would not do since the account "already exists"). Of course now, as clueless as I am, I have to change the nameservers on WHM and have been back and forth with the support staff (who happen to be very patient) on how to do this without me breaking anything. I'm sure the whole problem is simple, but am a complete idiot... right now. I'm sure soon I'll be posting answers to questions future newbies will be posting.
I'll be looking at some of the things you mentioned, Chris. Thanks.

I didn't want to start a new thread but I do want to say this.............
Charles and crew: If ANYONE is ever unsatisfied with the service you provide, please send them to me. I wanna be the first to slap them and knock them back into reality. :p
I tried several before coming to Powervps and NONE could even touch the technical support and just overall service that we receive here. The staff is friendly, VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and go out of their way to help you learn and grow in your business adventures. I'll stay right here and will be upgrading this next month. Thanks to the support here, I have been able to triple my business within 3 months time. I couldn't have done it without you guys...HUGE THUMBS UP!

Lol it's ok, you aren't the first and probably won't be the last to think that. Not many women in this business, at least on this end of it.
