Hello all,

I finally signed up for my PowerVPS account after recommending PowerVPS to others for a few months. I learned about PowerVPS at WebHostingTalk.com back when I created a thread called "Under $50 VPS plans." Back then, my research pointed to PowerVPS as one of my top picks. I was planning to move to PowerVPS from my current host (shared hosting account at Acunett.com) for a few months but kept putting it off. Recently, Acunett was DDoSed yet again, so I finally said enough is enough. I'm pretty pleased with the order process and the professionals I had contact with at PowerVPS.

Over the next few days, I'll be migrating my sites to my my account here. I'm keen to learn as much as possible about keeping my VPS account as robost and secured as possible. I'm also looking forward to helping as much as I can in this forum.

Well, that's my story and I am looking forward to making some good friends here.

Cheers,

nadzri

Carlos,

First, thank you for your business and the referrals you've sent our way, greatly appreciated.

Secondly, welcome to PowerVPS!

Welcome Carlos. I think I must have been the first person who send you a PM about PowerVPS, when you made your original post quite a while back. Won't say who I am :p, but you said in a future post that you wonder how many companies who posted in your original thread (about suggestions for companies, I still disagree with some) are still in business, guess that applies to me :D.

Now, this is interesting. I saw your thread on WHT, but never downloaded the file. I went with the reactions. I was wondering with whom you decided to host. Surprised, and glad, to know that you ended up here. I signed up with PowerVPS last night (before you, I think) and, with you -- who have done so much research -- here, I'm more confident that PowerVPS is the right choice! :)

Same here, I signed up with PowerVPS monday and look forward, like Carlos, to discover the benefits with VPS vs Shared Hosting reselling.

Now I must figure all this out ..... one step at a time I guess.

I'm only hoping PoweVPS won't become a victim of it's popularity and will manage to keep up the excellent job they are doing so far.

Analogy...
I go to Tomas (PowerVPS) and others are curious (glad) where I go == Tomas is the doctor that Dr. Carlos sees when he is sick -- my patients want to visit Dr. Tomas too. ;)

I can't recall how many people sent me PMs/Email from WHT asking me, "So which company did you go with?" For a while, I resisted telling people, but as it became clear that I would go with PowerVPS, I let the cat out of the bag so to speak.

>I'm only hoping PoweVPS won't become a victim of it's popularity
I understand this concern completely. Many companies can be the victims of their own success. (i.e. Growing pains or spending too much time with the eye on the 'dough' and not what got them that money in the first place.)

For me, I've always wanted my host to succeed in every way (thus I stay away from hosts with weak business models.) If I can help my host do well, it is like investing in my own ventures. A bit like, "I'll scratch your back if...."

Some time ago, I wrote, "Hosting? Read My Tips." thread over at WHT.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=309910 (part 1)
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=389087 (part 2)
Once I get settled in at PowerVPS (still migrating my sites from my previous host), I want to go through everything here and see how I can lend a hand with improvements. I've already got one item on my list -- a sort of 'present' for PowerVPS.

Anyways, I'm very glad I could help some of you find your way to PowerVPS, and I apolgize for being late to the party! (I was sociably late. ;) )

Cheers,

Robert

One to make an appearence eh? ;)

Welcome aboard. We're growing... but at the same time the one thing each of our staff refuse to give up is our quality of service. Each of us take pride in our work, and we're quite proud of our accomplishments.

You're actually seeing us in one of our growing pains right now as we make sure we keep enough servers to meet demand. The folks who were placed on backup servers know what I am talking about here... how we refuse to overload our hardware nodes so that we can keep up with orders. Most folks had no problems waiting a few days for us to get the new nodes online to setup they're VPS or have a problem with us setting them up on a backup machine and later migrating them to the new node after it undergoing stress testing.

We're all very excited about the future, and we're very happy you're with us for the ride!

A few days ago, I promised to make a nice present for Tomas and PowerVPS. It's taken me longer to create it since I am dealing with mail issues on my new VPS ( ) Anyways, I think the present is now at the stage where I can show it off.

So, point your browser to:
http://www.idevgames.com/forum/index.php?styleid=11

What you are looking at is a greenish-style I have created for PowerVPS's forum. It is currently served from my own forum while I test it, and tweak it. Here is the low-down (for Tomas and staff)

Your top page looks nice (powervps.com) But then, customers go to your forum and the branding is completely lost. Worse, you use your parent company name (Defender Hosting) at the top. As a marketer, I feel you must maintain your brand image throughout your website, thus I made this style for you. I know that you are using Extreme Pixel's Imagize style for your form -- and most likely haven't done anything since installing it. (Might have added a forum after my "Hosting? Read my tips post? ;) )

Anyhow, since I am also a registered user of Extreme Pixels Imagize, I took the template and re-worked with your branding (both header and footer). I'm working on the style sheet now, and it still needs teaks. There are also some new images, such as MUCH nicer smilies which I shall add soon. When I am done, I will hand you over all the files, so you can easily add this theme to your forum. BTW, my modifications only use 3 images for the header for the footer, which should be nice for your low-band visitors.

If you want (and I won't complain), if you force me to have a month's worth of free hosting for my un-selfish work, or adding my site's link near "Skin By ExtremePixels" (Theme by iDevGames) then so be it.

So, before I complete my work on buttons, smilies and CSS, I have to ask, do you want to use this? If not, I'll just drag all the files into the trash and get back to troubleshooting my email. :p

Cheers,

Robert

Hi Carlos...

Sure. We're interested. :)

When you finish or close to finished, just open a ticket and ask that it be put towards my attention. I'll handle it. Regarding special deals... lets talk privately. I'll reply back to ya and we can talk about it in a ticket.

By the way... my original degree was in Radio/TV Broadcasting. hehe I know a tad bit about marketing myself. My efforts however are just on support related issues mostly.

Very nice templte Carlos!!! Your efforts to get a better forum/community are greatly appreciated. Just on a side note, I think that when you refer to Dr. Tomas (as your analogy), that's really "Tom" who's not the same person. I'm Tomas meanwhile Tom is Thomas (yes, a bit confusing). Tom is the CEO, I am one of the support crew (yeah!! there's a difference!).
Thanks though for making me feel like the CEO... hehehe... just kidding.

Will do.

>lets talk privately.
Ohh, that sounds all like Cloak & Daggers.. I like it. I also should mention that I could be bribed with the offer of allowing me to run my Google Adsense ads! ha ha! (Don't worry, I would filter for "VPS" ;) )

>Very nice templte Carlos!!!
Thanks.

>Your efforts to get a better forum/community are greatly appreciated.
It's my pleasure. It is the least I could do after driving your staff nuts with my email issues.

>I'm Tom.
Ok, this is like SLim Shady, or Where is Waldo. What I need is an improve section on your site in the About Us that features your senior management. I need names, corporate structure, salaries, and all that good stuff, so I can understand who is who. By the way, you are VERY lucky you don't have a guy who I use to work with also part of your staff. His name is "Tomas Thomas." (Those are some cruel parents.)

>Thanks though for making me feel like the CEO
Sounds like a Coup d'état. (I hear his footsteps, you better get out of his Aeron chair.

BTW, why "forums.deftechgroup.com", and not "forum.powervps.com"?

Cheers,

You'll see our billing is also handled under deftechgroup.com as well since it's the parent company of Defender Hosting and PowerVPS. The intent is to have all the defender forums (including powervps) in one place.

But we'd gladly have it show the powervps skin when using the url http://forums.powervps.com/

I like your skin btw. Take this with a grain of salt as I am supposedly colorblind in some shades of green, but the lighter shade of green you used doesn't seem right to me. Almost too flourescent or something? Maybe its just in larger quantitites than anywhere else. But like I said, I like it and we'd be happy to skin the forums differently based on URL.

>Almost too flourescent or something?
One of the greens is a direct match off the green from the top page. Other greens might be shades of it. I'll revisit those images and check the color. I plan on giving you the PSD files to the top and bottom images, so you can feel free to alter the coloring to your liking. I thought about removing the "slash" like lines that is present with the blue Imagize style. Make it a flat green to match your top page. Let me know if you prefer that.

Cheers.

Flat green may work. Kind of plain, but works for me :)

But again, I may not be a good judge of this.

... I signed up with PowerVPS last night (5/24/05) ... :)

This Friday will mark my 1 month anniversary with PowerVPS. Except for the first week when I bombarded the support staff with numerous questions and requests, I'm happy to announce that I have not e-mailed them since. I am also glad to announce that, as evidenced by my lack of communication with them, there really hasn't been any reason to communicate with them -- which is very, very good!!! (Not that I do not like communicating with you nice folks, but am afraid if I do it too often, you'll tire of me.)

This is the first time since I got into this business, as far as I can recall, that I really have not been worried about my sites and the server they're on.

Thanks, PowerVPS!!! :)

Just a note that I didn't die, get taken in by the Patriot Act, and that I haven't forgotten to complete the 'greening' of this forum. I've been in the middle of a big move (I'm in Japan) and saying sayoonara to my former employer.

Carlos, thanks again for the research you did. I went with powervps as well after seeing your results and also other research I did at WHT.

I'm also doing some content design for a client and had the client get hosting through powervps.

We're only using shared cpanel accounts for now (small sites), but I'm glad that we won't have to leave powervps if we need to upgrade down the road.

My experience so far has been very good, better than any host I've had before.

It sucks just moving across town much less moving across the state, or across the country. lol
