I new this week with a brand new VPS CPANEL setup at powerVPS. I'm coming from a shared IP resseller environment and have the following questions:

1) I imported my main reseller account that was created at my previous hosting company and I had a free 5GB disk space Bronze package. Now when I access my cpanel within the new VPS on my main reseller account I get 4.6 GB remaining disk space in the left colunm.

Now I got thinking that I only have left another 5GB to resell ? But I think this is not right to think this way with the VPS ? Do I need to trim this package setting down to a reasonable setting like 500 Mb to save on system disk space ?

2) How does traffic allotements work on the VPS ? Previously on my shared service when I sold a client a 2GB of monthly traffic, the Web Host Manager reduced my available remaining bandwith. So with a 50 GB reseller account I could only sell 50gb/2gb or 25 accounts and after that I would have to buy more bandwith even though the client would never use it.

On VPS how does this work ?

Your help is greatly appreciated here!

Thanks
Steve

Hello Steve and welcome,

The limitation of resources is really WHM dependent depending on the setting you utilize. If you are going to continue to resell off the same reseller plan go into your root WHM and go under the Reseller Center. For your reseller account choose the edit nameservers/privledges icon. There you can set it like you want it. You can either place restrictions on that reseller account or leave it open.

I hope that helps

Hi Chris, it is presently set to "Limit Accounts that domains can create by Resource Usage" wich is enabled. I think I should disable this ?

Also my Resource usage is set to:
Resource Usage Limits (if enabled above) Resource Max Allowed Overselling Allowed
Disk Space Megabytes 5000 Megabytes
Bandwidth Megabytes 50000 Megabytes

I think I need to change this cause this is way out of wack. I think it was imported with the wizard from my old reseller account wich was at hostdime.com. It was an account that I can use but not resell on. Kind of a freebee but quite useless if you ask me.

Here's a link on some snapshots, maybe you can recommend some setting for me? Would be greatly appreciated and helpful for others too!

Yeah, I personally don't put any restrictions on my own reseller accounts (I have 3 because I came from three different WHM reseller plans with other providers). I open it wide open. I'm in looking at the VPS anyways everyday and I'll know if I'm getting close to bandwidth or hard disk space for the VPS. I setup the packages as I wanted them and let it fly. Can't think of any reason you would want to restrict your own reseller account, including the ability to "oversell"

As far as the high limits on your reseller account itself, it really shouldn't matter one way or the other. It's a matter of what you use, not what you are "allowed".

Make Sense?

Thanks Chris, will do that for my reseller account.

So I should disable "Limit Accounts that domains can create by Resource Usage" ? What exactly does this mean ?

When I create client accounts, will WHM limit me to the max possible bandwith ? For instance, If I have ten clients with 15G monthly bandwith then I reached 150G and I cannot add anymore ? This I do not like but still need a way to restrict the client if he reached his bandwith limit.

I gather that there is a way to eversell packages in WHM? I don't think I will need to do this but I really don't like the fact on my old reseller shared server that I could only create a limited amount of packages then I was maxed out even though 80% of my clients hardly ha had any traffic.
