I was sure I was on Centos, but now I see I'm on Fedora 2 - There is no way that could have happened is there?

That's what I thought with mine as well.

I could have sweared that when my VPS was created, the OS was Centos4, but it's showing Fedora Core 2 instead... and there's no easy way to switch without losing settings and installed apps (according the support) :|

Hi there.

VPS that were created before I think around Feb of this year were based on Fedora Core 2. This was due to the fact that Centos was not available until we were able to roll out Virtuozzo 3.0, which included the 2.6 linux kernel.

Unfortuantely there is no way to "upgrade" a VPS due to the way Virtuozzo templates work. The only way to change OS would be to have a new VPS built and for you to migrate over to the new VPS with the new OS.

Support can have a new VPS built for you and give you a week or two to transfer your sites, etc. We're happy to help as much as possible for those folks who want to do that. :)

So no then I guess... Thanks, I will do that sometime, sounds like fun! ;) Being on Centos 4 must have been some crazy dream.

Am I right in assuming that upgrading from one package to another does not affect the operating system/server you use, it simply changes the resources available to you?

That's correct. Moving from a P1 to a P2 or P3, or even to an XMS server would not change your OS. The upgrade scripts literally just run through and tell virtuozzo to increase each paramater to whatever levels are of the new package you're supposed to be getting.

No file is changed at all inside your server during the upgrade.
