I got the E-mail that the server will have some maintenance done on it and therefore rebooted. This is all well and fine. But my question is, I have a custom program that isn't a service that always runs.

How can I get Windows Server 2003 to auto logon after reboot so that the program starts back up again? I found a few registry tweaks that allow me to do it, but they recommend against doing it for security purposes. Is it really a security threat to do this with a server and not a workstation?

Thanks!

Since the password used for the user you want to log on automatically is stored as a clear text in the registry, I can see where the security concern comes in. If you were to do something like that, I would highly suggest that you first make sure your VPS is not infected with any viruses, trojans and such, as well as to make sure its locked down as much as possible. I would go through any custom or 3rd party scripts and make sure they are up to date too.

or you can look at secure autologon programms such as LogonExpert Autologon for Windows Server (http://www.logonexpert.com) it encrypts password by AES 256bit and interact with Winlogon directly at PC start-up
