Hi,
First time poster and help requester.
Got PowerVPS server in Feb of this year, mostly for the email, but haven't been able to set the email up. Have searched online with no luck. Have done support tickets through P-VPS, but they told me everything but the solution - told me they don't support email, gave info that didn't work or gave reseller info – which I am not a reseller.
Is this really difficult to do? Does exim need to be messed with? I just want mail@mydomainname.com sent to Thunderbird. Have given up on wanting multiple identities for the sites I manage to get all the emails in one check – does that make sense? I am the only user, for now, checking emails for several sites.
This has been so frustrating and so long. My technician has given up and I am close to going elsewhere, cause there is no sense getting gmail when we have this.
Maybe I missed the tutorial that explains this. Sorry to have to bother anyone if this is so simple, but its the needle in the haystack for me.
If someone could help I would appreciate it, and if it works and I have email, I would be one happy and grateful overworked, overstressed, underpaid web manager who might have met her match, but does not want to retreat.
Thanks!
Daniel

Dana,
I'm sorry for the issues you have seen.
Can you point me to old ticket IDs (PM or post them here)?
Also please feel free to submit a new ticket.
Assuming you have cPanel, mail setup is really easy. I'm not sure why we have not been able to resolve this for you. All you really have to do is setup the mail account in cPanel and once you have your DNS pointing to your server everything should be fine. From that point Thunderbird should be able to login to the mailserver and retrieve your mail.

If you have any control panel, this should be really easy to do.
Try this tutorial website:
The Unofficial cPanel Tutorial - cPanel - Webmaster Stop
http://www.webmasterstop.com/64.html
Provides step-by-step illustrations on how-to's for email:

Once your setup on the server side, here is a tutorial for thunderbird email client setup:

Let us know how it goes....

Hi Daniel,
Thank you - I thought it was simple and I will try it myself.
Did not keep the prior tickets, current email is not reliable and anxious to use VPS email.
Appreciate it!

Hi, back again -
I'm stuck. I can't see where to set this up, where to go.
I am in Cpanel from the WHM, these are my options. Am I in the right place?
Addon Scripts (Deprecated) , Branding, Enable/Disable Outlook AutoConfig, Install cPAddons, Manage cPAddons, Modify cPanel/WHM News, Plugins, Reset a Mailman Password, Shopping Cart Reset, Synchronize FTP Passwords, Upgrade to Latest Version
If I'm not in the right place, where should I go?
Thank you for directions!

Dana,
Go to your domain's cPanel, not WHM. That will be at http://domain.com/cpanel for short.
Once you are in the actual cPanel for your domain... go to the Mail section then "Add/Remove Mail Accounts" (or something along those lines).. this is where you will add your email addresses.
WHM is for the overall management of the entire server, not a domain to domain basis. The actual cPanel for each domain is where you manage the emails, databases, etc for that specific domain.
Hope that helps! If not, let me know where to be more clear.

Hehe.... took me a little bit to figure out where you were...
That's still WHM, not cpanel.
Scroll up to Account Information (https://69.65.105.160:2087/scripts/command?PFILE=Account_Information)
Then Click "List Accounts (https://69.65.105.160:2087/scripts2/listaccts)"
Then click next to the domain name of your choice.
A new window will open up with prompt for CPANEL log in.. once entered, now your in CPANEL....
Alternatively, you can http://YOURIP:2082 to enter CPANEL log in
ex. http:/127.0.0.10:2082
Once entered into the CPANEL, look for MAIL subsection for all your preferences.

Just a little correction... If you're in WHM as root and click the cPanel icon in List Accounts, you should not need a password. However, doing this also turns off some operations you can perform when not using the root password to get into the cPanel of a domain.

Hi Daniel, Hollis
There is the problem - we have never logged into that. Did not know about that. Tried it and the passwords for Virtuozzo & WHM don't work, should they? Is this domain/cpanel something you configure elsewhere and set the password?
Thank you so much - 6 months looking in the wrong place and almost learned exim to do it.

Dana,
You will have a seperate username/password for the actual domain cPanel. The easiest way to resolve this part is to login to WHM like you have been and go to List Accounts. From there look up your domain and you'll see a username. Note this down.
Next, in the Account Functions (I believe) section of WHM, go to "Modify Password" (maybe "Modify Account Password").. and reset your domain's cPanel password. Do not set this to the same as your WHM password.
If you're not sure where all of this is, send me your login to WHM (with your server IP/domain) in a PM.
Hope that helps!

Daniel,
Can't thank you enough and I will try this tonight. Will post an update tomorrow.
Thank you Daniel, Hollis
Now I can finish my blog set-up and I have a good topic - there are no stupid questions.
A good night to all!
