Guys,

I just registered a CPanel account this morning, but accidentally put one of my domains that I need to keep on another server during my transition to PowerVPS. I'd like to change this base domain to another of my domains that I can use during the transfer. In other words, when I signed up, I provided adomain.com, so my account by default has dns1.adomain.com, dns2.adomain.com, etc....I'd like to change that to bdomain.com.

Should I do this through WHM or CPanel? Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi there!

There are a few things you need to do. Most of them will be through WHM.

1.) Create the bdomain.com as normal in your WHM if it does not exist.
2.) In your WHM goto Edit Setup. Change Primary Nameserver and Secondary Nameserver to ns1/ns2.bdomain.com (don't do anything else). Save your changes.
3.) Change your system's hostname by going to Server Setup and then clicking Change Hostname.
3.) Go to DNS Functions in WHM and click Edit a DNS Zone. Choose the bdomain.com.
4.) Setup an "A" record for ns1. This should have:
BOX1: ns1
BOX2: 14400
BOX3: A
BOX4: YOURFIRSTIP
5.) Repeat step 4 for the A record for your new hostname (just enter host in box 1, everything else stays the same)
6.) Repeat step 4 again for the A record for ns2. (enter ns2 in box 1, and your 2nd IP in box 4).
7.) Save your changes.
8.) Register ns1/ns2.bdomain.com with your registrar.

You can also submit a ticket to support for help with this.

Hi, I want do this too and found this instruction very helpful.
However,

2.) In your WHM goto Edit Setup. Change Primary Nameserver and Secondary Nameserver to ns1/ns2.bdomain.com (don't do anything else). Save your changes.

I couldn't where to set Nameservers this in my Plesk.

Where is it?

The above instructions were for CPanel based servers. I'll write up a guide for Plesk shortly.

I'm trying to do the same thing and have so far done steps 1,2,3 and 8 but am confused as to which boxes the data needs to go in at step 4,5 and 6. I'm faced with a bewildering array of boxes and don't know if I need to edit the ones at the top or fill in the ones at the bottom where it says "Add New Entries Below this Line"

No need now, I put in a ticket and support advised me to just delete the new domain and alter the old one - worked a treat as WHM did all the work for me :D
