In accordance with our AUP ports 6666 to 7000 have been blocked on all of our new HSPC nodes. If you have services which operate on these ports, please change the services to use ports outside of this range. Please remember that IRC clients, BNC servers, IRCD servers and IRC Bots (eggdrop etc...) are in direct violation of our AUP.

Maybe in a near future you remove that from your AUP. :)
Both people like me will benefict instead of renting a shell account for 1/10 of the VPS money spend.
In the mean time, that will only block ircd's, not bnc's or eggdrops using telnet to other ports.

My sugestion is to bring back this audits from 2+ years ago that I've talked about on this topic: http://forums.deftechgroup.com/showthread.php?t=3068
Then locate ircd.conf psybnc.conf and similar and review each case manualy.

Just my 5 cents!

The problem is then you get into managing the "he's allowed to have this, but she is not". It's impossible to manage as you grow.

You can't effectively teach new techs, etc all of the "if/else" dependancies.

This is going to be one of those areas that we're not going to be able to cave on. Part of our goal with the new HSPC setup is to have a consistant deployment in order to make sure it's easily able to be maintained and managed.

That is not the point I think.

The point may be:
"You can use IRC but if you get DDoS from anyone dont complain to us and we will not support you" or even "and your VPS may be shut down if this continues to hapening".

I have a shell for 3+ years and no one have flooded me, so I think my bnc is "safe". Also, I have a private vhost someting.mydomain.com and mydomain.com is on the vps (I've added an A record) and if anyone was really piss off with me they will mess with the domain itself too. :P

Also most IRC networks *that are not used for warez* are the kind of "peace & love" and no one care about flooding it damaging it in any way.

But ok, I call santa this morning and ask if he can help PowerVPS to remove IRC not allowed from AUP, lets wait a few (more) years. :D
