View Full Version : Transfer Primary Domain?

I just had my VPS set up (yay!). I tried to transfer (from my old server) the domain that is the primary domain for my account, and CPanel told me that the account already exists, as it does...
What do I need to do to transfer the domain? Do I have to do it manually? Or can I delete the root domain account and then copy it from the old server?

You can just delete the main account that was created as part of our easy start setup. After you have transferred it, double check your DNS settings.

What should be checked with the DNS?
Two days and counting until my own transfer....

Ok, thanks. I've transferred the domain from the old server to the new.
How should the "primary" account be configured?

I don't think it's any different from any other account, it should be fine like that. Just from my experience, though. But I could be wrong.

The primary account just has ns1 and ns2 setup and new accounts created are automatically assigned those as their DNS servers. It's not a big deal, you just have to make sure everything works as you'd expect since your removing the one setup by easystart.

Right, I've got that set properly. What about disk & bandwidth quota, username, etc - does that matter at all?

Not if its your account, but that up to you - do you trust yourself? :)

Well, no, not really. I've been known to do things behind my back and not telling myself about it.

What about just doing a cPanel backup on the 'old' server, and 'restoring' it on the VPS?

I don't trust myself either....
Just ask Charles.... I like to hang around reboot buttons.

*discretely hides reboot button from Rob*
hmmm, so that explains it....

I only did it once or twice.... (then charles renamed the shutdown command on the boxes, lol)

I suggest just transfering the accounts, and if anything is amis afterwards, drop a note to support so they can take a look. Since I am replying so late, i assume this is a non-issue at this point :)

Well, I've done it already. I screwed up sshd, locked myself out of my own VPS. :(
