I've copied a bunch of domains from my old host, but now I'm getting errors when I try to copy two domains.

I'm using the "Copy an account from another server with account password", as I don't have SSH access to the old server.

Here's what I get when I try:

Login ok
Uploading Htaccess
Uploading Wrapper
Uploading Dectector
Uploading Packager
Uploading Downloader
Uploading Killer
chmoding scripts
Unable to get uid of remote account...(trace information follows)...
Error while copying account...! Aborting Extraction

What does this mean?

Ignore this... It started working all by itself.

Generally you may need to try the copy a few times if you get errors. There could be a process running on the other server that gives it problems or there could have been network communication problems.

If worse comes to worse, just login to the old account's cpanel, generate a full backup and select SCP as your transfer method. Enter your root login details, and /home as the backup destination. Then you can go to new server's WHM, restore a cpmove/full backup and import that backup that was sent over. :)

Hi all, fisrt post here.
Got my VPS just 3 days ago, and so far looking like I made a good choice.

Regarding cPanel backups, I can confirm it works well as Rob suggests - apart from one thing. If you're unlucky in that you are doing this from an overloaded shared reseller server like I have (not for long), you could end up crashing it!

I only managed to create 30 backups of total 800MB over 4 hours, and the server crashed twice! So what happens next? The hosting company has now disabled the cPanel backup feature completly "due to abuse"!

Now I'm left with another 40 clients on there and moving them slowly over using the WHM copy an account option, as I also get errors that require multiple attempts to try and catch a time when the old server is not busy.

They did offer me the weekly backup files, but they are already 3 days old, and waiting until next weekly backup would guarantee clients would not have data missing from either e-mail or forums.

Just thought I'd share my current experience :)

Cheers,

- V

By the way, is it 'normal' to have such great differences in the WHM spaced used when moving servers?

I have these examples:

old new VPS
16Meg 10Meg
7Meg 1Meg
10Meg 3Meg

12Meg 0Meg !!!

The sites transfered 'seem' to work fine to me, and no complaints so far from clients.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks,

- V

If you are refering to disk space used by the transfers themselves... this depends on how big the other accounts were, how much mail they had, they're mysql database size, etc. The backup process moves everything from mail to sql to ftp usernames and passwords.

Once you have moved and restored the accounts and you know they're working correctly, you can delete the files inside of /home/cprestore or /home/cpmove. This will clear some disk space on your new server.
