Well here's a newbie question. I have a power-1 VPS and I am reselling with a load of around 20 sites (not much load).
I also have a son that enjoys gaming and has Battelfield 2. He did ask me if i can host a gameserver but I was not sure anout this.
This question goes to all the gaming techs out there. Is there a way to host Battlefield 2 or any other type of game on my VPS ?
- will this affect performance of my VPS ?
- what do I need to do this ? CPANEL game server ?
Thanks

The short answer is no.
The long answer is that it's technical feasable but not only will it beat the living daylights out of your VPS (as it is very resource intensive) while burning up your bandwidth allocation very quickly, you would have an unenjoyable gaming experience as it would most likely lag at any reasonable player count.
Your best off renting a game server from a reputable GSP that has servers optimized and dedicated to this.

Thank's for the info Charles. I did some research and everything points to your advice.
My VPS will remain for website reselling and as for gaming well I will be shopping around for a gameserver hosting company.
Got any good links for a gameserver hosting company ?
I found www.clanservers.com that seem to be quite up to snuff.

I suggest getting opinions on the GSPs as I am biased - we happen to own/operate one.

How about if I install Ventrilo on my VPS, is this a resource hog ? Looking at a 10 slot system.
