Hi to all..

I spent one day in accomodating with the VPS. I have enough experience in managing some 2000 and one 2003 boxes so I must say almost everything is working quite fine. I am using all the features, uploading and setting up a CMS as we speak in fact.

As for the server itself. The remote desktop is responsive, everything seems to be working quite all right. TBH I've used only CPanel until recently and Plesk is a little bit different but usable.

I see the main advantage of offering Win VPSes in the multi-tier application market. As long as you need specific components installed you were stuck to the dedicated solutions only. This way VPS can be very adjustable to the needs of the costumers.

As far as I can see the server says it's a 2.8 dual xeon with 32mb ram (heh :). But I could not have any serious speed tests since the common benchmark programs dont run on win 2003 and - i need application and database performance - not a box speed.

The thing that made me interested was the install of MS SQL. Either you guys have a very nice deal with MS or these boxes are going to cost like hell...

I am planning to test the box in the following days, I hope that 7.5 Plesk will bring more newbies to try. I will write my progress both on this forum and my wrap-up would be published on WHT after authorisation of the Defender staff...

We'd most certainly like as much feedback as you can provide. This is a BETA, so all comments, etc are welcome. =D

Hi Jovan, and thanks for the feedback

I have asked SWSoft about the incorrect memory display, and will let you know when they respond. We reported this in an earlier beta, and expect this to be fixed in the final version. Please use the power panel to get accurate memory allocations.

No, neither your VPS, nor the box has 32mb of RAM. The video card maybe :)

We appreciate your efforts. We hope to be able to upgrade to 7.5 soon, but please don't try this yourself as we don't have licenses for it.

thanks

Defender Hosting is a Microsoft Certified Partner, as well as a Certified Web Hoster and a member of the SPLA program with them.

The SQL "stuff" that is included with Plesk is licensed through them, and we're told it is the MSDE and SQL Lite Desktop, so there is nothing we have to add to cover the cost, this is direct from SWSoft.

Great to hear that it will not overburden the price and that SW Soft resolved this problem since it was THE main purpose why Windows hosting is more expensive then Linux. I guess MS is learning some things... All the sudden I am beginning to like Plesk ;)

Just a followup on the wrong RAM being reported. SWSoft is aware of the issue, and plans to fix it, but dont expect the fix in the near future. Ignore it and use the Power Panel to see resource use.
