I chose to post a different post in the security section..

First comes firts - Plesk says it has AntiVirus integrated - but is this only for mail checks... Also - is there a plan to implement spam assasin and power tools in the production version of this product?

I had a little problem - every time I tried to put on/of the Firewall inside Plesk I got an error message.

I am concerned about the following things:

- Windows is infamous about its security. I've tried to update the system but this option seems to be prohibited. Do you do group updates of the OS?
- Firewall - I feel a little empty handed with the plesk's option ON/OFF. Can I install a firewall and fine tune it to make the communication available but protect from hacking attacks
- Antivirus for the VPS? Just in case... I would purchase a licence or use a free version but maybe something is integrated?
- Would the procuction PowerPanel have the option to back up the box?
- Would it be possible to install Tomcat and some other modules afterwards (not in this subject though)?

Enough for now :)

I too am interested in these topics. I presume that the deftech crew has setup an external perimeter around these boxes, but still, would be interesting to know, because certain ports or protocols might want to be allowed in.

Spam Assasin is meant for Apache, not really IIS tho, and installed by Virtuozzo (sw-soft has details about what's supported where).

Regarding backups ... I would actually be interested in having managed daily backups w/restore. Just not something I want to deal with at this point.

SA if properly configured should run on win32 with a compatible MTA. See: http://www.openhandhome.com/howtosa300.html for more info on how to do it.

About backups , I think that backups are managed by virtuozzo.

I have wrote lil' .bin file that actually do backups to some external ftp or on other disk drive , so now I'm planning to put task manager everyday @ 2 AM to do this backups.

I have actually wrote this "program" for purpose of one company to handle they're backups but I think it will work just fine in this case, I just have to do some modifications on it.

I will post this file here so you guys can handle your backups.

Hi Jovan

I don't have answers to all of these, but expect 7.5 to address many of them. I can tell you that OS updates are done by us (and dependent on virtuozzo), and we are told backups will be supported in the final version.

We'll get back to you when we have ansers, but we too are concerned about windows security (and security in general as you will see in some announcements we will be making soon)

Yes this is done on the hardware node, the same way its done in the Linux Virtuozzo environment.

Yes you should be able to do this no problem. You are also welcome to use the TCP/IP Filtering already built into Windows.

See Charles answer above, we both posted at the same time :)

Concerning 1ONE (I think I've met you on some reseller forum ?) backup questions...

I believe that PowerVPS is going to use the same policy as on Linux VPS's - PowerPanel and automatic backup to RAID5 NAS (if I remember right). Since I am considering VPSes especially for some business applications (I need the added security and costomization available only on dedicated/VPS)... I was thinking of adding an additional layer of security and having weekly backups on off-site backup server. I was reading something about rsync on Windows but how and will it work on VPS and are the results satisfactory - that is something to learn in the future...

As long as SWSoft provides the same backup mechanism in Virtuozzo for Windows as they do in their Linux platform, we will of course offer our Windows customers the same backup protection we offer Linux customers. Nightly backups to servers connected to a private Gigabit network utilizing 2TB RAID 6 protected near-line storage. Which, btw, has worked out quite nicely for our customers as we do individual file restores almost on a daily basis for customers without problems.

jpetrov hi :) , do you remember on what forum have you met me , maybe on WHT ?

About backups , well I think that backups needs to be stored to at least 2 different sources, so in case of something you have your 2-3 backups. If you have spare space on some server or your local computer ( if you have fast connection ) well why not to do backup. I was in situation where I had backup on my DVD-RW , and for some reason DVD-RW couldn’t be loaded and I couldn’t retrieve my backup. I like RAID-5 or RAID-2 disks , but I also like to have one more backup at some other place ( my Linux VPS server ) .

Now something off the topic, when will you guys ( deftech ) do upgrade to Plesk 7.5 ?

Ivan

Don't try this yourself, as we don't have licenses!

We'll upgrade to 7.5 as soon as VPS templates are available. We were told late thsi week, but don't hold me to it.
