View Full Version : Park domain before pointing to new DNS server?

Hello :),

I want to make a smooth transition from my old host to my new server here at PowerVPS. As such, I tried to add a domain (loopware.com) to an existing cPanel account under the Parked Domains feature. However, when I attempted to add loopware.com to the list, I received an error:

Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not
\nappear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to
\nthis servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ip.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

Is there any way to get around this, before changing loopware.com's DNS servers? I really want to make a smooth transition :). Thanks!

Indeed.

Within WHM->Tweak Settings, one of the first three check boxes says something along the lines of "Allow users to park domains pointed at other nameserver"

Check that, hit save, and you'll be good. =)

I have just completed my move, but the VPS domain now needs to resolve/propagate.
Would it also have been useful if I had setup an A record for that domain at my old reseller account, and point it to the appropriate VPS IP in advance of the final move?

*IF* you have access to the DNS entries at your old host, the simplest thing is to change the TTL's within the DNS files down to something like 300 seconds (5 minutes). Then, when you've transferred your sites over, change the IPs within the zone files to point at the new server, and then finally change the NS details for the site. =)

The above is a LOT simpler if you have root.

I did exactly as you say Tony.
Only thing is I'm now getting mail delivery failures apparently because the VPS subdomain needs to propagate, and the rDNS for it.
