Hello Everyone

I'm hoping that we can post questions for shared cpanel accounts here as well.

I am using my own squirrelmail script and have set up a subdomain called 'webmail.macaleese.ca'. However, I also want to allow users to access the url via 'macaleese.ca/webmail'.

At the latter url, though, cpanel pops up with it's 'virtual' pointer or whatever to it's offerings of webmail (horde, neomail, etc.).

Is there a way for me to override this or disable it, or am I stuck with that because it's shared?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

You can remove the two webmail aliases from httpd.conf if you like. I don't generally recommend it, but you can try it to see if it works.

Just remember... this effects ALL webmail aliases at that point on your server. :)

Forgive my ignorance, but do I have access to make that change on a shared account?

Sorry, that was my mistake. I read shared CPanel and thought you were talking about a VPS with shared hosting for your customers.

If you are on one of our shared servers, we cannot remove the /webmail redirect to CPanel's webmail system as it effects all users on that shared server.

If it's YOUR VPS, you can make that modification, but it cannot be made on our shared servers.

even if homemade pie bribery was involved? :P

While I'm a big fan of pie, unfortunatley we have to say no. The reason being for this is if we disable the alias in httpd.conf, it disables webmail for *EVERY* account on the server.

I might suggest you post a suggestion over on CPanel's bugzilla (as a feature suggestion). You can do that at http://bugzilla.cpanel.net/

oh no worries, I'm just kidding around of course; I understand what you're saying, makes perfect sense :)
