proftpd reinstallation

Hi,

This issue is not related to PowerVPS, but I am hoping that someone from here can help me with this.

A friend of mine has a dedicated Plesk server.
We need to recompile proftpd to add some additional modules.
I am concerned that we will break the Plesk installation.
What would be the correct reinstallation procedure to add some modules to the default installation?

Would it be easyer to run a separate copy of proftpd for what I need?
