Yes another thread comparing the two ;)

I did a search but that did not quite answer the questions on my mind. Probably because everyones situation is a little different.

I am currently a reseller and wish to move to a VPS.
I have a fair number of customers who have large user forums.
I do not have a lot of time to babysit the server, nor can I respond to problems at any time of the day or night. However I do require a good uptime.

So i'm looking for facts on:

1. Which control panel uses less CPU/Memory, Cpanel or Directadmin (I need the CPU/Memory for the forums!).
2. Does Cpanel auto-restart failed services? (I know Directadmin does).
3. Which control panel will give me better hands-off-once-its-setup-right.

Basically my main concerns are having enough CPU/memory for the same price I pay now as a reseller, and not having to get a call at 2am from a customer in the UK complaining that his site is down. :)

*I'm not a PowerVPS rep. but, I'd like to help.

1. Which control panel uses less CPU/Memory, Cpanel or Directadmin (I need the CPU/Memory for the forums!).
cPanel tends to be pretty bulky in terms of that--may cause some spikes when users access the control panel or do an intensive task within it.

2. Does Cpanel auto-restart failed services? (I know Directadmin does).
cPanel has a script called chkservd which can do this--however, I've seen cases where it doesn't. You can have PowerVPS install SIM which checks services every 5 minutes and restarts them.

3. Which control panel will give me better hands-off-once-its-setup-right.

Both of them should work okay for this--I rarely have to go into cPanel. However, there are occasional issues where something breaks in cPanel, you can usually just use a script the /scripts dir to fix this, however.

One thing you'll find is that most hosting customers will request cPanel but once they see that DirectAdmin has most of the features, they won't mind.

Good luck with your venture.

As elix said DA uses less memory/CPU, and it does I tried both Directadmin and Cpanel VPS but there were on different companies before I settled here at DefenderHosting/PVPS with Directadmin. Directadmin would seemingly use less memory allowing for other processes like mysql and apache to suck it up. Large Forums remember to use a cache, it'll save your butt at peak hours. Optimized Apache and MySQL + PHP Cache = happy customers.
