View Full Version : Is the WEBMIN POWER-0 plan good enough to run a few vBulletin forums?

Hi. I'm thinking about getting a plan here. I read a few comments here on the forum that because of having only 128 MB memory the Power-0 plan was not powerful enough to run a hosting panel like CPanel reliably. I don't need a panel since this will just be for my sites, so Webmin would be fine for me. But I'm concerned that the memory issues might also affect running a few vBulletin sites reliably. Would I be ok with the Webmin P-0 or do I need to go for the P-1 plan? Thanks.

Hiya Gregg,

A couple things..

The Webmin plan is really meant for folks that are comfortable in the ssh aspect of managing a linux server - since a VPS requires the same maintenance and knowledage of having a true root dedicated server.

Webmin is a nice "panel" - but there are still a bit of things that you'll want/need to do via the command line, etc.

The P0 plan will not handle vBulletin forums, especially a "few" of them. They P0 is really meant for backup mx, dns, etc, it is limited in cpu, ram, and as such you will not be happy with the performance of it to manage and run hosting sites off of, esp vb sites.

I'd recommend a P1 plan with cPanel or Plesk.

Thanks for the quick reply. Why do you think I should go with a plan that includes a full blown panel if I don't need it for reselling? I would think that a panel like cPanel would use more of the plan's resources than a Webmin plan. Is it just for the ease of management of the plan? By the way, of the panels other than Webmin which one uses the least resources... cPanel, Plesk, or DirectAdmin?

Webmin will use the least coming up next is Directadmin. Cpanel/Plesk are hogs

Tom probably suggested cpanel or plesk because they are easy to use and we can support you properly with them. With webmin you will have to configure everything from scratch, and we can't hand hold you through it if you needed it.

Consider getting a panel to use for the configuration when you need it and stop it when you dont need it. As Henry said, directadmin uses the least resources after webmin.
