Hello,
I have a lot of questions, I'm hoping they can be answered.
I am interested in VPS but this will be my first time managing one, I would not say i'm technically challenged but I will say i'm a fast learner. My main concerns are:
1. If I decide to go with Cpanel do I have to find a firewall and some type of mail scanner to protect my clients? or does each account come with some sort of security feature?
2. Is it possible to Register domains through this? Do I have to sign up with Enom or someone like them?
3. Is there a manuel, book or website anyone could suggest for a beginner?
4. What is the most Ram and bandwidth allowed per account, I plan to resell but I think I may need more then 25 gigs of space in the future?
5. Is it possible to manage more then 1 VSP? For example I have one P1 account and 3 P3 Accounts?
6. What happens if I decide I need to upgrade but in order to accomodate me my account would have to change nodes, is this a seamless process or will the websites be down?
7. Are cpanel and patches automatically updated or do I have to update them?
Sorry for all the questions but providing the best service to my clients mean alot to me and I really don't want to take on a Dedicated server if I can't handle it.
Thanks,
Tanisha

1. If I decide to go with Cpanel do I have to find a firewall and some type of mail scanner to protect my clients? or does each account come with some sort of security feature? It comes with APF.
2. Is it possible to Register domains through this? Do I have to sign up with Enom or someone like them? No. We do not REGISTER domains. You'll need to use a registrar like Enom or Godaddy. You CAN host any TLD that you wish and you'll have your own custom nameservers.
3. Is there a manuel, book or website anyone could suggest for a beginner? I would suggest looking in our Knowledge Base, http://www.powervps.com/support
4. What is the most Ram and bandwidth allowed per account, I plan to resell but I think I may need more then 25 gigs of space in the future? The most RAM allowed would be 768MB. If you need more than that for a single server, it's best to go dedicated. Bandwidth on a P3 is 500GB. There is a special right now if you signup you get 100GB extra free a month.
5. Is it possible to manage more then 1 VSP? For example I have one P1 account and 3 P3 Accounts? Absolutely. You can have as many as you like.
6. What happens if I decide I need to upgrade but in order to accomodate me my account would have to change nodes, is this a seamless process or will the websites be down?
7. Are cpanel and patches automatically updated or do I have to update them? This is up to you on how you set your Update preferences in WHM. It's very easy to enable or disable automatic updates.
Sorry for all the questions but providing the best service to my clients mean alot to me and I really don't want to take on a Dedicated server if I can't handle it. No problem. Hope that helps!

Thanks Rob,
Two questions, What is APF and I'm really interested in doing this but as a beginner I'm a little weary. Do you know of any beginners who's outcome turned out fine? Is the special for 100 gig hard drive space or 100gig of bandwidth?
Thanks Rob,

That would be for bandwidth..but I think space would be really nice :D
In all seriousness, APF is more of a backend to "iptables".
It's pretty basic, you can just type these commands in SSH:
apf -a 1.2.3.4 will allow connections from that IP.
apf -d 1.2.3.4 will deny connections from that IP.
PowerVPS support is very kind and helpful so they should be able to help you get started. I didn't get my first VPS here, but I did get my first VPS ~ 8 months ago and I turned out just fine :-).

Thanks Rob,
What is APF
APF is a policy based iptables firewall system designed for ease of use and configuration. It employs a subset of features to satisfy the veteran Linux user and the novice alike. Packaged in tar.gz format and RPM formats, make APF ideal for deployment in many server environments based on Linux.

Hey Doc,
I'm not a total beginner as I've had experience with CPanel and WHM before, but I didn't have a lot of direct Linux admin experience and the last host I used didn't allow all of the features offered on the VPS plans here. I contacted Sales here before signing up and they reassured me. Both Sales and Technical support at PowerVPS have been awesome.
I've spent a good deal of time reading to develop more skills in Linux and have made progress, but still need help and the folks here are super responsive. If you're a quick learner and interested, I'd say go for it.

I couldn't have said this any better myself. I am the exact same with regards to situation, learning, and previous knowledge before coming here. I too was a bit hesitant, but was convinced by other testimonials, excellent Pre-Sales support, and WHT recommendations.
Since then I've learned a lot, but definitely not everything. I still open tickets whenever I need anything, and it gets resolved. No question has been too dumb just yet. :)
You won't be dissapointed!
