Having a forum is a great start for VPS tips tricks etc, has PowerVPS / Defender considered setting up a WIKI? I feel a Wiki is a far better tool for documentation (I use it extensively on the WPG2 project) and once setup, maintenance is just a matter of a proceedure..
Thoughts anyone?
/me runs before Charles gets here....
FYI, Charles is known internally as "Mr. Wiki".

Yes we (ok i) love wikis! We use one extensively for internal use.
We'll give it a try, but it might take me a few days to get to it. I have been meaning to give mediawiki a try, so unlesss someone can convince me otherwise, that's what I'll use.

You just had to say something like that. LOL
He's going to say "wiki" another 3 dozen times now. :P
Seriously though... I think it's definately workable. When it's online, one of my projects will be to head up content being put into it, organizing it, and editing such proactively.
(Charles just has to install it. I'm the one who gets long term care. lol)

I would recommend mediawiki, it plays very well with eaccelerator (something I would recommend when using a wiki that is going to get traffic), seems to be security friendly and heavily developed / supported which is always a plus..
oh, ye gads... two wiki's under Charles' control?! ozgreg... what have you done?

ozgreg, as you can see the wiki fever haas begun. It's creeped in to 4 threads now :)
I'm taking a few days off so won't be getting this done for another week or so, but will soon enough.

Couple days off, I can see Robert running around the office and tripping over some fiber ;P

Couple days off, I can see Robert running around the office and tripping over some fiber ;P Running requires effort. Easier to just reboot the hardware nodes.

Ok after waaaay too much fiddling with 1.4 without success, upgrading to 1.5RC4 resolved the issues.
So, The wiki is live, complete with modified navigation bar and custom namespaces.
Have at it!

I see ozgreg has been a busy bee, flushing out some sections, and adding content, thanks!
I'm struggling a little with the sections/categories, much like we struggled with those on the forums. For example, Cpanel can apply to dedicated servers too, not just vps, and a lot of cpanel info will apply to shared/resellers too. Should we have a Cpanel section thats independent of the others (maybe under a "Panel" namespace)? Security is another topic that spans panels and offerings. I think it's best we get this right before we go too far with it.
I realize we haven't accounted for windows either yet (and if anything needs wiking, it does :) ).

p.s. Does anyone know if/how I can add myself as a watcher to any and all pages, including new pages created?

IMHO,
since vps is not too different from dedicated, I suggest scrapping them altogether.
Linux
-- Administration
-- Optimisation
-- Security
Windows
-- Administration
-- Optimisation
-- Security
Perhaps another category called Control Panels, like Charles suggested, for CP-specific how-tos.
Sorry to come so late in the game. :)

Generally I find with Wiki's is you stick some content in it and see how it flows. I redesigned the WPG2 project wiki a few times before I finally got it down to a content that seems to work..
But I got to agree with Nadzri, content for the OS, Panel could be a better way to go..

Yes I like this. But even in this scenario, there will be overlap. Take Plesk, which is a panel that is on both windows and linux, and a larged portion of the panel is the same on both.
Still noodling it over. Feel to make any changes you want - the only part I *have* to be involved in is adding namespaces.

Hiya Charles, I believe you wanted to "watch" any changes, is that right?? You know the Wiki has a list of changes -> http://powervps.com/wiki/index.php/Special:Recentchanges
If you do not mind me suggesting but I think you should add a sticky thread in the Linux VPS - HOWTOs and FAQs forum directing people to instead post any new FAQ content directly into the Wiki.
I am just a little snowed under right now trying to get release 1.0 out of the way as well as that boring getting paid for a living real life stuff so I not had much time to add any more content but I do plan (and I hope others do as well) to go back through the forums and repost some of the great gems into the wiki..
It is the community that makes the wiki and we got a great community here @ the forums so we should be able to make a great wiki (Hint Hint) :-)

Yes, I would like to be made a watcher for any and all content, instead of having to check the recent changes periodically.
I have added a sticky to the howto/faq section - great suggestion!

Ok I have a think about how we can make this happen for you. I do not think it be hard just a small hack..
