So confused

I just got my VPS and I really don't know what I need to do to secure the web server. Where do you start? Recent Newbie's what did you do when you got started?

P.S I installed Fanstastico and that was easy now I don't really know what else to do. Also should my domain have shell access ? and if I take if off will it not let me access the shell when i'm logged into the power panel? any recommendations?

Do a search on here, and on www.webhostingtalk.com for securing and optimizing your server. Lots of infomation out there. Read for hours, then read some more. You will start to get an idea of what you need to do.
