1) How much support is there with a dedicated server?
2) Cost-wise, what are the advantages of dedicated over a Cpanel 3?

1) email sales@defenderhosting.com to get an auto reply with current dedicated pricing. Please note they are unmanaged. if you need a managed service, we offer dedicated vps servers which are essentially exactly what you have today in a VPS except you get all resources of the server allocated to your VPS only, and you can email sales@powervps.com for current offerings and pricing for those.
2) A dedicated costs more than a power-3 vps, so I guess none. You get more for the additional cost of course.

Thanks Charles, I'm on the seesaw here. I need the support still. I'm learning but definitely am not ready to fly alone yet.

Why this sort of a roundabout way? What is the difference to you (DefTech) in managing a dedicated vps vs a dedicated server?
Wouldn't it add unnecessary cost to install Virtuozzo and also additional usage of resources to run it? (I imagine VZ will take up some memory for itself)

There is nothing roundabout about it. With a true dedicated you can break many many more things than you can with a vps, and they are much harder to recover from. Just you wanting your own kernel compiled adds an additional level of support and complextiy for example.

Yes there is additonal cost. There is some overhead but actually not that high. But being a VPS, we can manage the server with all of our existing tools (mostly automated) and can offer things like backups, easy disaster recovery and rebuilds etc.
It makes it far easier for us to manage it and the downsides are minimal.
