Hehe, I'll be the first here, thank you.
Been with Defender only since November 2004 and so far so good. They've answered support queries within the hour, sometimes within minutes of the question.
A month later we had a problem, something to do with failed hard disks I think. That made me think of moving, but their handling of the whole situation was prompt and professional. So I stayed, and no regrets!

You can never predict hardware problems. You can have a plan to improve downtime time...
What plan are you in, what control panel and how are you satisfied with the speed, service and so on?
Hi guys :)
I'm with defederhosting/powervps sice December 2004, so far I couldn't be more happy with service and servers. I had VPS plan with another company they used UML , when I came to Virtuozzo .. wow what a speed and stability, very very good vps plans , here

My question was this - we all know how popular CPanel under linux is. BUT Plesk offers same interface both for windows and linux and has windows-like user interface. The recent updates seems to show that sw-soft is the most determined hosting-software company covering plesk, confixx, pem, hspcomplete, sitebuilder as well as some modules like counter strike (not too good for vps though :), tomcat, firewall, antivirus, app vault and so on...
I was thinking would it be wise to focus on plesk only solutions. That's why I was asking if there is someone already doing this to give me some ideas.

jpetrov,
I'm on a Linux VPS with DirectAdmin. I chose it over CPanel and Plesk after deliberating over what I need and what all the 3 cp's offer. CPanel seems overly complex during my evaluation (there just seems so much to do) and reviews say it needed a lot of memory to run well. Plesk had this number-of-domains limit, and it had commercial plugins. DA so far runs fast, takes up an almost non-noticeable amount of memory, does what I need, easy to use, and what it lacks in features it makes up for fine details in implementing the features it does have...
With that said, Plesk is looking very good now especially with version 7.5. I'm still experiencing Plesk 7 on the Windows VPS - it looks pretty good and comprehensive although not as intuitive as DA (I never read the manual for DA, I have to read it for Plesk).
What I like about Plesk is the email user CP, probably the only thing I need that is missing from DA.
Well, I dont' regret coming to them at all!! I came to them on Dec 2004, and I stayed for one month, and then sadly one of my collegues got a dedicated server from Savvis, and then I had to move with him, but the server got loaded, and I told him we will add a VPS from these good guys to reduce the load!! and i will never forget them, and they should know that I came to them through a good guy, and I hope I can help them in what ever they want.

nadzri,
i was almost sure that directadmin is the way to go. but almost all vps providers dont bundle installator (unlike cpanel/fantastico).
Tbh - my costumers do not care about control panel as much as they care about security and stability.
Support wise - I thought plesk would be a fine choice since you have only one GUI. But I must mention that I have doubts about the level of support as well as the price of the addons.

Installatron is a 3rd party program which I think you can install yourself, but requires a small fee ;)
Security and stability were also factors in my choosing DA. I've been with webhosts who said they're having problems because of CPanel updates etc.
Support-wise, if you get a VPS or dedicated server and you are provided a CP, I'm quite sure your support option is only with your provider and not directly with the CP company. As for Plesk commercial addons, some hosts do provide them bundled. For me, the important ones are the antivirus and spam assassin, so if the host provides these for you, Plesk now do look like a very good choice.

i plan to purchase sitebuilder by my own (this is not directly connected to the control panel).
As for the plesk addons - powerpack including application pack, antivir, antispam are nice. Tomcat is rare and I am able to set it up manually for few clients in need.
MSDE is nice price-wise (it is NOT connection but speed throttling) and probably the upcoming SQL Express 2005 will make the things even more interesting in the database market but I would like to see a host that ALSO rents MS SQL standard database space on a dedicated vlanned server for costumers in need. I.e. if I have "special" costumer willing to pay for added functionality and speed I would love to be able and ask the host for i.e. 100meg SQL and pay additionally for it.
SQL database web management is nicely done on Plesk.
My deadline to decide on everything is late April - so let's see how the things will be developing.
Hi,
I was thinking to move to plesk from Cpanel , but then I deside not to do this yet, as I understud Plesk is having some big problmes when it comes to upgrades , etc... In cpanel I build apache with just few commands , etc... For now I will stick to cpanel for linux , plesk for windows , and in future , well I don't know ... I think it would be great to run your company on only one control panel , but as I mention before , there are some know issues with plesk for linux , so better wait for now.
Question for deftech guys : Do you plan to offer centos or something similar for OS on Linux boxes ?

Well to transgress from the above theme... I would also just like to say Hello *smile*
I joined up with PowerVPS in December 2004 as well... after needing more GRUNT than the shared hosting I was with.
I must say I have been nothing but impressed from the Service, the quality of hosting and the feedback. The introduction of this forum is also a big positive.
Good work Defenderhosting/PowerVPS people *smile*
Cheers,
Zain
