I have been working with bulk resellers for abot 6 years now. I have wanted to move up to ds or a vps for a while now. However because I fear the fact that it would all be under my control I have not crossed that line.

Now I fell I might be ready to.

My first question is: when I order a vps will all the software that I get when I sign up with bulk reseller be installed.... php.... mysql.... curl ..... perl Or will I have to do this myself.

Does the system have a firewall is it hardware or software...?

How much more will I have to do before I could accounts over. How much more time would I need to admin and maintenance.

Also as far as support, at what point does the support end and the do it yourself or be ****** begin

Sorry if these seem like silly questions but This is my income and I don't want to lose it if you know what I mean.... :o

Any input would be great!
Thanks
David

Also as far as support, at what point does the support end and the do it yourself or be ****** begin With these guys, never. They are, without a doubt, the BEST service around. As long as you are legit, treat them with the respect they deserve and aren't running any bs sites, you found the best in the business.

Hi David!

I have been working with bulk resellers for abot 6 years now. I have wanted to move up to ds or a vps for a while now. However because I fear the fact that it would all be under my control I have not crossed that line.

Great! We're glad you're considering us. :) Yes, there are some things you eventually need to learn with a VPS. However, we try to make that as painless and easy for you as possible. The cool thing about PowerVPS is that we have a great group of techs (if I do say so myself, hehe) that are knowledgeable and more than happy to help answer questions or help you resolve problems.

You're not alone during this point like you would be in most cases if you would suddenly just jump to a dedicated server.

My first question is: when I order a vps will all the software that I get when I sign up with bulk reseller be installed.... php.... mysql.... curl ..... perl Or will I have to do this myself.

Does the system have a firewall is it hardware or software...?

Yes and yes. Regarding software installed, the server is released to you with everything ready to go. You just need to register the nameservers (ns1/ns2.yourdomain.com) with your registrar using the IPs we provided you and then point the domain itself to those nameservers you registered.

The server will have Apache, FTP, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Exim, etc. If curl support is not enabled by default, it's easily added from WHM. (Support can also help you with this.) We also do a lot of security hardening for your server. This includes installing a firewall, securing the /tmp folder, installing brute force detection, and more. Please see http://forums.powervps.com/showthread.php?t=26 for details.

How much more will I have to do before I could accounts over. How much more time would I need to admin and maintenance.

You can use WHM's Server to Server transfer feature to move accounts over to your server. I know folks who once they had they're VPS were running customer sites on it the next day (they're DNS updated pretty quick, lol). But as far as actual time... it's hard to give a time frame. It depends on when you're honestly ready for customers to be on the server. Get DNS straightened out, copy accounts over, and point they're nameservers to your new nameservers that are on the VPS. Then ya should be good to go.

Also as far as support, at what point does the support end and the do it yourself or be ****** begin As long as it's regarding the server itself or the system services, we're happy to help out. We can recompile Apache/PHP as needed, assist with mail issues, etc. We do NOT handle 3rd party script support (such as installing forums, chat rooms, etc), and we do not support 3rd party applications (such as Digichat, Shoutcast, or other 3rd party system services).

You'll find our support team tries to go quite far in trying to help our customers. There are times in which we have sort of bent the rules a bit to help folks. It's not always guaranteed when someone asks for something we don't normally do, but we do try to go the extra mile for our folks. :)

Sorry if these seem like silly questions but This is my income and I don't want to lose it if you know what I mean.... :o No problem at all. That's why we're here. We're happy to help out in whatever way we can. Just so you know though... these forums are user-to-user support forums mainly (though staff members are known to participate a lot). So if you need "official" support, please direct it to our helpdesk.

Hope that helps!
