I have a few VPS beginner questions (again....)
I may be worrying about nothing, but since my VPS had memory problems a few days ago (resulting in an almost total shut down), I’ve been watching the system resources. Here are some things I don’t understand – maybe someone would be kind enough to comment.
1: In my Power panel, the system resources appear to be increasing steadily; if I reboot, it drops back to around 35%, then rises gradually through the first day to over 50%, the just keeps climbing (a few days ago it was running at 85%+). From other posts here I figure that 50 – 60% is normal. However, when I look at my system resources in Plesk, under Server/System statistics/Memory usage, the memory usage is running at 98%+.
2: I am concerned about the level of incoming traffic – often more than double outgoing. Could someone briefly clarify what constitutes ‘incoming traffic’? How do I check whether any of the incoming traffic is malicious?
Whilst I find this forum very helpful in some ways, much if the advice seems to be aimed at those who know what they’re doing. From browsing through posts here it seems that I will probably get the advice to ‘configure my VPS’ – good advice, but as a beginner, a link to something more substantial might be even more useful (i.e. what this configuration involves, and a rough guide to ideal parameters to configure to).
