Default What does daily backup relly mean?

There is a mentioning of the daily backup as part of your service on your order page.

Do you automatically backup your servers daily once the account is opened, or it is something we have to setup in the WHM?

I just want to make sure.

PowerVPS backs up your VPS nightly to a dedicated backup server with a raid5 or raid10 array. The nightly backups are incremental [1] for six days, and on the seventh day a weekly full backup [2] is performed. Two full backups are kept and the old ones rotated out automatically.

Fourteen backups are kept at any given time, so the automated backup scheme allows for enough room for full recovery from the incrementals (which require the most recent full backup to exist), the other full backup, and still leaves room for customer initiated backups.

The backups can be managed via the Power Panel. You can initiate your own backups, restore entire backups[3], or delete automated backups as well (at your own risk and not recommended).

Customer initiated backups from the power panel are slightly different and break the backup cycle. These backups are full backups, but they cannot have incrementals. So if you do your own full backup, the next automated backup is also a full backup, but the kind that allows incrementals to be made next. You really do not need to make your own backups unless you have a special reason to force one.

If you restore from backups it will replace the entire vps and overwrite any new files you currently have as well. A restore can be made from both incremental and full backups.

Your Panel backups are completely different and backup your accounts localy (and use your own disk space). Our recommendation is to do daily panel backups but only keep one copy (this assumes you have enough space) or every few days anyway - again only keeping one copy though. If you have them run before our backups, they will get picked up and archived for at least a week anyway. If you ever needed to restore an account, you could request we get the backup file from your nightly backups.

1. An Incremental backup is a backup of only what has changed since the last backup.
2. A Full backup is an entire copy of your VPS at the time the backup was run.
3. For restoration/recovery of individual files/directories please email support@powervps.com
